New good practice guidance from Historic England
Historic England has published the second edition of its good practice advice note on the setting of historic assets. The guidance will help local planning authorities and those proposing change to heritage assets. LDA Design contributed to the consultation.
The new guidance provides a steer to landscape and heritage professionals in distinguishing between setting studies and other forms of assessment that also consider views and visual amenity.
The staged approach to taking decisions on setting has been expanded so that it can now be used to assess the contribution of views to the significance of heritage assets, and how a proposed development may affect an asset’s significance.
The approach also now includes reference to the need to consider seasonal and day/night changes to a view or views.
