Cambridgeshire Plans for Green Growth

12/08/2009

A second edition of a twenty year plan for new green infrastructure (GI) provision in Cambridgeshire will be prepared by LDA Design for Cambridgeshire Horizons.

The review will provide an opportunity to reflect the importance and diversity of green infrastructure in Cambridgeshire, and to encourage the continued delivery of green infrastructure through both private and public investment. The new strategy will reinforce the benefits that can be delivered by green infrastructure via the planning process to assist climate change, health and well-being, social equity, quality of life, ecosystem services and biodiversity protection and enhancement.

Ian Houlston, project manager for LDA Design said: "Green infrastructure has an important role in improving the quality of life for Cambridgeshire's residents and making it a more attractive place to settle and invest. Our practice has been at the forefront of GI thinking in the UK for many years and we're looking forward to working with Cambridgeshire Horizons and its partners to establish a new approach to GI planning and delivery."

John Onslow, director for development at Cambridgeshire Horizons commented: "Green infrastructure is an important element of the growth agenda in Cambridgeshire, and is consistent with Government policy to ensure new developments deliver a good quality of life for both new and existing residents. By reviewing our existing strategy with our local authority partners and key stakeholders we can ensure our plans are up-to-date and relevant. This review will also expand the strategy to cover the whole of Cambridgeshire to provide full coverage for all residents."

The project is at an early stage of development, and is due for publication in spring 2010.
