Cambridgeshire Wind Farm Gains Planning Approval
26/11/2009

A new wind farm, the first to be situated in South Cambridgeshire, has been granted planning approval following a public inquiry. Wadlow Farm Wind Farm will consist of 13 turbines, each with a maximum capacity of 2.3 MW.
LDA Design provided expert witness on behalf of client RES and also carried out the original Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA). Helping deliver over 70 onshore and offshore wind farms throughout the UK, the specialist renewable energy team at LDA Design provides energy assessment and development skills to meet the challenges arising from climate change.
A planning application for Wadlow was submitted in 2007 and was turned down by South Cambridgeshire District Council. This was followed by the successful appeal with permission granted in November 2009.
Colin Goodrum, partner of LDA Design, who gave evidence at the Inquiry said: "We are delighted that this scheme has received consent and that the inspector concurred with the findings of both the original landscape and visual assessment work and the detailed evidence subsequently presented to the Inquiry. Wadlow Farm Wind Farm will make a significant contribution to achieving the East of England's renewable energy targets."
David Cox project manager, RES added: "We are very pleased to have planning consent at last, and LDA Design played a significant role in helping us achieve a positive outcome at the Inquiry."
Construction is due to start on site in 2010, bringing economic benefit to the area and, on completion, will generate electricity equivalent to the demand of around one third of all South Cambridgeshire's homes.
