Sustainable Development for SEEDA

4/11/2009

LDA Design has been appointed by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) to work on the redevelopment of Daedalus - a former military site in Hampshire. The aim is to bring forward a sustainable, high quality, mixed-use development which will benefit the Gosport peninsula and surrounding area.

To help deliver the aspirations for the site LDA Design, a leading UK design and environment consultancy, will produce a masterplan as the basis for two Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) which will guide the future development of the site in Gosport and Fareham.

"We hope that this exciting employment-led, mixed use scheme will provide new significant opportunities for jobs, investment and skills, particularly within the aviation and marine sectors. This will bring benefits to both the local and wider area" said Peter Cusdin, development director at SEEDA. "LDA Design has a proven track record of producing masterplans that address employment, housing, and community needs on a large scale and we wanted to bring this experience to Daedalus."

John Phillipps, partner of LDA Design added: "Daedalus has a fascinating heritage, having started as a seaplane base during the First World War and a major embarkation for the D-Day landings during the Second World War, which we are keen to ensure remains for generations to come. Our work includes understanding the history and character of the site and producing guidelines to retain its past, while catering for contemporary and future needs."
