WIND TURBINES AND THE HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT: ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF WIND TURBINE DEVELOPMENT ON THE SETTING OF HERITAGE ASSETS

14 September, 9.15 - 16.30, Institute of Materials, Mining and Minerals, London

Colin Goodrum, partner of LDA Design, chairs this conference considering the currently much debated issue of how to assess the impact of wind turbine development on the setting of heritage assets. Landscape and heritage professionals, both from the wind energy industry and local planning authorities, are looking for a clearer definition of setting.

  • What is the situation regarding current legislation, policy and guidance?
  • What have recent appeal decisions added to the debate?
  • Who should be carrying out the assessments?
  • How do we reconcile the need for renewable energy with the protection of heritage assets?

Exploring the issues from the perspectives of conservation, development, landscape, history and the law it promises to be a lively day, addressing contentious issues. Speakers include planning barrister, Tina Douglass; Gemma Grimes, a planning advisor with the British Wind Energy Association; George Lambrick archaeology and heritage consultant and Michelle Bolger, landscape architect.

The conference is part of the Landscape Design Trust's events programme for 2009. Contact Alex Kerr for further information or to book a place.
