Our scheme for Beacon Quay has helped to transform Torquay’s harbour into a bustling destination. Essential sea wall repair became an opportunity for the creation of an enhanced public realm with a new cantilevered timber walkway linking the town centre to the ‘Living Coasts’ visitor attraction. Seats fold up and over the listed structure of two D Day embarkation ramps while the ‘Quay Ring’ and a light installation in Morse Code make a poignant reference to the site’s wartime history. The success of this masterplan gave impetus to the Torbay Development Agency and its partners to continue with the wider transformation for Torbay to become the ‘New English Riviera’.
