Scarborough was Britain’s first seaside spa resort. We developed detailed design proposals for the town’s historic and working fishing harbour, following a visioning exercise as part of the Yorkshire Forward Urban Renaissance Initiative.
Our proposals narrowed roads, widened footpaths and introduced resin-bound sand-coloured aggregate surfacing along the pier, glass beads sparkling like quartz in real sand. Bespoke timber ‘mast lights’ mirror the fishing fleet; large ‘loafer’ seats are located in sunny spots forming perches near the seafood stalls and reading as carefully placed sculptural objects.
The new-look harbour has already attracted extra investment and restaurants now offer tables with a stunning view.
