In the heart of London, 48 hectares around King’s Cross and Farringdon is set to be one of the city’s most ambitious urban realm projects.
Camden Council commissioned the work from LDA Design in response to changes planned for the area: when Crossrail opens in 2018, for example, Farringdon will become one of the busiest stations in the UK.
Streets are currently dominated by parking and the main roads very heavily trafficked. The new public realm will create better balance, with uncluttered and multi-functional streets to promote walking and cycling. The area is also very short of open spaces and investment in those will also provide new opportunities for socialising, as well as improving biodiversity.
