Are universities following the best development model to compete in a global environment? LDA Design’s Bernie Foulkes will lead two workshops at an education conference organised by Scottish current affairs magazine, Holyrood, exploring how Scotland’s universities can drive inclusive growth.
The conference will examine the priorities and challenges facing the higher and further education sector in Scotland and the increasing role universities can play in strengthening the Scottish economy. A keynote presentation will be given by Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science.
Bernie will set out to demonstrate how harnessing the power of place-making and public realm can help universities remove barriers between research, education and public engagement.
Bernie is a masterplanner, urban designer and landscape architect with nearly 30 years’ experience in regeneration, environmental planning and design. He is currently helping University College London create a second campus away from its historic Bloomsbury setting in The Queen Elizabeth Park.
