Light over darkness

The invasion of Ukraine means that everything has changed, and our work in Russia must come to a halt for the foreseeable future. We are not taking up prospects and we are stopping our involvement in all projects there.

LDA Design’s mission is to make great places and to shape the world around us for the better. In this endeavour, we seek out like-minded clients who share our belief that the solution to the crises of climate breakdown, nature loss and social inequity lies in the landscape.

Leading with the landscape results in the most remarkable places – places that are fairer, better connected, more resilient, and there is a groundswell of understanding of this approach.

This groundswell has taken us around the world, including to Russia where we’ve partnered with many forward-looking architects, planners, urban designers and developers seeking to turn dense, poor quality, Soviet-era housing ringed by major roads into welcoming, nature-rich places to live and work. We have built strong relationships with Strelka Institute and others. We have time and respect for work being carried out on the ground that will end car dependency and transform lives.

So, it is in deepest sorrow that we are watching tragedy unfold in Ukraine.

As an employee-owned business, all of the work LDA Design undertakes is scrutinised to ensure it meets our beliefs and values. The invasion of Ukraine means that everything has changed, and our work in Russia must come to a halt for the foreseeable future. We are not taking up prospects and we are stopping our involvement in all projects there.

Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine who are calling on the rest of the world to support them. We sympathise with and are supporting our LDA Design Russian colleagues in our UK studios who continue to produce incredible work in difficult circumstances.

We call for peace and long for light to win out over darkness.
