Andrew Dowding
Director

I am a masterplanner and urban designer specialising in the design of complex, mixed-use masterplans and urban design studies. I have over two decades’ experience creating sustainable places that bring about positive change for communities. I have contributed to some of the UK’s most significant regeneration projects, including King’s Cross Central, Olympic Legacy, Olympic Transformation, Hereford Old Market, Greenwich Peninsula and Hounslow Civic Centre.
Based in Cambridge, I work across LDA Design’s national business on projects that encompass a range of complexities and scales. These include strategic new settlements, greenfield extensions, major outline planning applications, town centre regeneration and inner-London interventions.
I am a Design South-East design review member and have judged the BILD awards, and Architectural Masterprize.
I like to spend my spare time with my family and enjoy running, live music, motorsport, redesigning my home, and exploring the city.
Q&A
As an urbanist, my favourite place is Rome. It is such a wonderful experience to explore the city’s structure, piazzas, and architectural beauty. I cannot wait to return.
The Arc de Triomphe. I have sketched views from this wonderful landmark multiple times. I am always mesmerised by the Parisian skyline, architectural grandeur and the energy of the surrounding streetscape.
I was so saddened by the recent passing of Lord Rogers. My admiration for the Pompidou Centre and discovery of his Reith lectures, urban task force white paper and publications influenced my journey into urbanism with the purpose of designing to make life better for all.
