I joined LDA Design’s Cambridge studio in 2022 after graduating from the University of Edinburgh with a master’s in landscape architecture, urban design and planning. My background is in environmental design at a range of scales. I draw on the cultural landscape to inform proposed design interventions.

I also paint with watercolours, recording natural and urban landscapes on my travels. I like to engage with challenges head on and my own philosophy is inspired by Picasso when he said: “I am always doing things I can’t do, that’s how I get to do them”.

Outside of work, I like baking, gardening, rock climbing and, of course, painting.

Q&A

As a painter and designer, who has inspired you?

“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.” – Pablo Picasso reminds me that the rule of abstraction applies not only to art but also design.

What is your secret superpower at work?

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls. ” – Pablo Picasso
My love of painting informs my design work. I believe there is a connection between landscape painting and landscape architecture.

I love the view from ...

Google Earth satellite view. I envy birds that overlook the earth, from city to forest and ocean. With Google Earth, I can see circular farms in deserts, wind turbines in the ocean and endless roads cutting through cities.
